“Thinking resilience: from particular to general”

Used since antiquity in the writings of Seneca, Pliny, Ovid and Cicero, the word resilience has overcome everyday language borders, and entered progressively in very different fields, ranging from psychology and ecology, to mechanics or economics. The many areas where the word resilience is used raises, rightly, questions. Is it a "closet" concept, an empty shell, as some say? Or, on the contrary, its great power of penetration is explained by its heuristic value?

What are the elements of common sense and what is particular when the concept of resilience is used in very different areas? Can we build transdisciplinary bridges using resilience? Can we be satisfied with the general definitions of resilience? Is it possible to operationalize this concept?

Gathered in the University Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis, researchers and practitioners interested in resilience will address these questions and will try to give the best answers.
